Classroom Procedures

  1. Upon entering the classroom, students are expected to sharpen their pencil if needed and to go straight to their desks.  Students should begin Cornell notes and bell work immediately.

  1. Students will be given a warning for the first two tardies to class. On the third tardy, the student will be assigned to one detention.  The fourth tardy will be two detentions, the fifth will be three detentions and parent notification, and the sixth tardy will result in a day of ISS.  Upon multiple tardies, the student will be assigned multiple days of ISS.

  1. When the teacher wants to get the attention of the entire class, she will raise her hand and say “My Turn.” Students should:
    1. -Stop what they are doing.
    2. -Look at the teacher.
    3. -Raise their hands.

  1.  Students will construct Cornell notes daily.  Direction of how to set these up will be demonstrated the first couple of weeks of class.  Students are expected to complete a summary on their notes daily, and notes should be reviewed each night for approximately ten minutes.  Notes are expected to be kept in three ring binder or on laptops once they are issued.

  1. The teacher will instruct the students when to hand in work.  Students must listen for instructions in turning in work.  This may change from time to time due to set up of room.

  1. When the teacher or another student is talking to the class, no one else should be talking.

  1. If a student would like to ask a question or share information with the class, the student should raise his or her hand and wait for the teacher’s acknowledgement.

  1. Trash should be thrown away during designated clean-up time or upon exiting the classroom.

  1. If the class becomes too rowdy during class games and activities, the teacher will warn the students.  Failure to adhere to warning will result in the teacher stopping the activity and beginning another assignment.

  1. Students are to keep a notebook with all of their work in it for the entire semester.  The notebook should have five dividers in it with the following categories: Labs/Projects, Warm-ups, Class work/Homework, Notes, and Tests. Interactive Notebook Checks will be administered periodically to ensure students are keeping all assignments in their notebooks.  The teacher reserves the right to keep tests in student files for parent conferences.

  1. Excused absences have three days to turn in work for full credit.  These students must receive a homework excuse from the teacher.

  1. When it is time to change groups or to time to announce clean, the teacher will play a tune.  There will be specific tune for clean up and a specific tune to change groups. When students hear the tune that is designated for the specific task, they will either change groups or begin clean up.  Students will not be excused to their next class until the room is clean.

  1. When in lab and/or the computer lab, students are to follow all lab rules.   Please see the lab safety contract for more information with science labs.  Failure to follow lab rules will result in the student being removed from the activity.  The student will be given another assignment and will receive a point reduction for not following procedures in the lab.  When working in the computer lab, students should not play nonacademic games, surf the internet, and/or research using the internet without instruction.  Failure to follow computer lab rules will results in the student being removed from the activity and possible future lab activities.

  1. If a student does not have paper or a utensil to write with, there may be paper and golf pencils located at the front of the room.  The student should pick up these materials if he or she needs them upon arrival to class.

  1. If a student has completed ALL of his or her work, he or she may work on one of their research projects or work on an activity from the activity box.  Students are expected to work on science during their designated science period.

  1. If the teacher is interrupted at the door, students are to be courteous and wait for the teacher’s return.  The teacher expects everyone’s attention as soon as she has helped the person at the door.

  1. Students are expected to follow the same rules if a substitute teacher is teaching.

  1. We will spend time setting up your composition book in a specific way to help you stay organized. You should plan on looking over the notes in your composition books for about 10 minutes each night.  If you are absent, you are responsible for either copying the missed notes from another student, or from Mrs. Crowe’s composition notebook. You will be asked to turn in your composition book 2-3 times a month, to be checked both for completion, and to grade certain assignments.  Your composition book is EXTREMELY important.

  1. We have a class set of textbooks available for our use in our classroom.  You also have an option of checking out a textbook.

  1. You are expected to look over your notes for 10 minutes each night, and this is an ongoing “assignment” for you.  Other homework assignments will be assigned regularly, and they are expected to be turned in at the beginning of class on the due date given for the assignment.

  1.   Labs are designed to be completed during class.  For a variety of reasons (equipment malfunction, lack of student focus, etc.), you may find that you do not have lab work completed by the end of the period.  You may complete post-lab questions and turn the lab in the following day for full credit if the lab is being collected.

  1. If a student becomes too disruptive to conduct class, the student may be sent to a “Buddy Room.”  This will be another teacher on the team.  The student will have work to complete for science when going to the “Buddy Room.”

  1. Tests are usually given once a week and cover recent material gone over in class during that time as well as the lab work done in class.  Tests may also be given at the conclusion of a unit.  A test may be re-taken for full credit within five school days for taking the original test.  Even with the test retakes available, students must fully prepare for each and every test or quiz.

  1. Students must sign in and out of class if they need to leave the class for any reason.  A clipboard will be at the front of the room to sign with name, time, date, and time returned.

  1. Students are expected to go to the restroom during transitions between classes.  However, in case of an emergency, students are allowed three bathroom passes throughout the semester.  Students must sign the sign-in/sign-out sheet located at the front of the room, and fill out their bathroom pass on the back of their tardy log.
