| For the third year, Drake has implemented a math team
for our seventh grade math students. Each seventh grade math
student will take a common assessment every four-and-a-half weeks.
This assessment, along with daily assessments and teacher observations,
will help determine which math class/teaching method would best serve
that student. This means that, in a way, we are tailoring math
instruction for each individual child. We hope this will ensure
that each student's mathematical needs are met and that they will never
feel "bored" or "lost".
After each assessment, it may become necessary to assign your child to a different math teacher. His or her schedule will not change; he or she will simply go to a different room for math. Our expectations, classroom procedures, and materials are unified, so your child will not be unfamiliar or require new materials if they do change math teachers. As always, we strive to do what's best for our students and seek to provide the best possible environment in which he or she can learn mathematics.
